Hype, an independent and entrepreneurial pure player in hydrogen mobility solutions, launched in 2009 by Mathieu Gardies, has secured two new grants from the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) and European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) following competitive call for proposals. These grants will enable Hype to accelerate the deployment of its renewable hydrogen supply and hydrogen refuelling station network across the Greater Paris area that is open to all types of hydrogen fuelled vehicles.
• The « Hype Network Paris 2024 » project has been selected as part of the « CEF – Transport – AFIF (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility) » competitive call for proposals, launched by the European Commission to develop sustainable transport infrastructure in Europe and would receive a grant of nearly €15 million. The Banque des Territoires (Groupe Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations), a minority shareholder in Hype since 2017, will also contribute €6 million to the project.
• The « H24byHype » project coordinated by Hype, with its partners Ecolotrans, Enertrag, Loxam, Malherbe, Neoen, VINCI and the City of Paris, is one of the winners of the « Ecosystèmes territoriaux hydrogène » request for proposal organized by ADEME. In this context, ADEME board of directors has approved €21.4 million subsidies.
These two projects will facilitate the deployment of 10 Hype hydrogen refuelling stations in the Greater Paris area, and corresponding renewable hydrogen production capacity as well as the associated uses. This network will complement the one developed by Hype as part of the « Last Mile by Hype » project, which includes the deployment of 16 hydrogen refuelling stations (and corresponding renewable hydrogen production capacity) in the Greater Paris area, as well as the development of the last mile logistics market. For this project, Hype had previously secured €19 million in grants from ADEME, the Ile-de-France Region and the European programme Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
These complementary projects, which in total have been awarded more than €55 million, will accelerate the deployment of the network of 26 Hype stations open to all in the Greater Paris area, while supporting the development of heavy-duty vehicles and intensive mobility in urban and suburban areas: last-mile logistics (light commercial vehicles), heavy goods trucks, buses and waste collectors, as they enter the market.
As part of the strategic alliance with the VINCI Group, VINCI Energies will be responsible for building these 26 new stations, while VINCI Concessions has invested €15 million in Hype (1).
Hype, which operates the largest fleet of hydrogen-powered taxis in the world, is growing rapidly with 290 vehicles currently, and is increasing the pace of the expansion of the fleet with the placing of a new firm order with Toyota for 388 Mirai 2 vehicles in late 2022.
Leveraging this strong dynamic, experience, partnerships, and scalable model, simultaneously integrating sourcing, distribution and uses, Hype will soon announce new regions in which it will expand, in France and abroad.

Launched in Paris in 2015 at COP 21, in response to the public health emergency of air and noise pollution in urban areas, Hype is developing the first hydrogen mobility platform integrating sourcing and production, distribution and uses, with taxis as the first relevant market.
